Fair City Garage Explosion & Fire

There are more explosive scenes on Fair City when couple Paul and Niamh Brennan cause the garage to go up in flames leaving Orla Molloy trapped inside. Viewers saw a violent showdown between the cheating pair which led to Niamh knocking out Paul with a bottle of whiskey. Eager to get away from Carrigstown with their daughter Ruth, Niamh leaves Paul lying unconscious at home and goes to pick up her car in the garage. But as she prepares to drive away Paul turns up intent on stopping her from leaving. As Niamh starts the ignition Paul grabs a wrench and starts to attack the car. Panicking, Niamh starts the car and crashes into the shutters of the closed garage where Orla is working inside.

From the impact Orla tumbles from a make-shift ladder pulling a shelving unit on top of herself, knocking over a petrol bucket and a heater on her way causing the garage to catch fire. Niamh is exasperated when Paul refuses to accept that they are finished. Paul and Niamh not realising Orla is in the garage leave unharmed thinking they have had a lucky escape. But as Orla struggles to free herself from under the shelves the garage flames grow.

Speaking about the episode Sorcha Furlong, who plays the role of Orla, said: "Orla has had her fair share of drama over the years but this has to be one of the most exciting and daunting episodes I've worked on. She added: "There were so many people involved on the day from special effects experts, stunt doubles not to mention the cast and crew".

Speaking about the dramatic episode, actress Clelia Murphy, who plays Niamh, admitted it was “pretty intense” filming the scenes. She said: “After weeks of lies and deceit the storyline reaches a crescendo when Paul and Niamh have it out, face-to-face, and lay all their cards on the table. It was pretty intense filming some of the scenes. Both Tony (Tormey, who plays on-screen husband Paul Brennan) and I put everything into it, so, I really hope people at home enjoy watching the outcome". She added: “Will this finally be the end of the road for Paul and Niamh? Who knows? “But one thing is for sure, Niamh won’t go down without a fight.”

Tony, who has been playing love rat Paul Brennan on the RTE soap for 27 years, said it was exciting being apart of Fair City’s first two-hander episode. He said: “We haven’t done anything like this before and it was quite an emotional week of filming, but it’s always exciting to try new things. It’s been such a great storyline to play over the last few months. We wanted to give it our all, so, I really hope everyone at home enjoys watching it. It’s make or break time for Paul and Niamh. In Paul’s mind, he and Niamh belong together, sure they have had their fair share of problems, but they always come back to each other".
